I ended up getting a ASUS Eee PC 1005HAB from bestbuy for $239. As soon as I got it, I threw ubuntu netbook edition on it and its smooth sailing from here.

The battery life on this thing is double what it says on the box since I've put ubuntu netbook on it. I've been on it for 3 hours and it still has half battery life.
