Default psu halp

well i'm pretty novice when it comes to hardware, completely novice really. so idk what's up. but alright, here's my deal.

there was a storm, messed up my psu i suppose. it was an atx-250-12z d2. I have an older computer that's an atx-250-12z-d, so i took the psu out of that, and put it into my computer.

i guess i plugged in the cords to the right spot, started up fine, ran fine for 10-20 minutes. then started heating up excessively. i took the psu out of that computer (from the older computer), and put it into the older computer again. same things happening. the computer's heating up excessively.

i'm guessing i'm installing it wrong when it comes to putting the cords in and what not, but like i said. i'm a novice when it comes to hardware. so idk.

any thoughts?

btw the watts are the same, 250W.

so yeah, help please

edit: btw it's not just the power supply that's over heating. the newer computer everything was heating up. the thing behind the fan (not sure what it is...), the hard drive, every thang.

i haven't given it enough time to shut down.

when i put the old psu into the computer i smelt burnt plastic, everything was hot. so i shut it down. later when i opened it up, there was melted plastic, so i'm assuming that's what it was.
